Research and analysis that changed minds on ESG in China
01
The issue:
Few insights on emerging ESG issues in China
Despite its importance in China and globally, the international investment community has lacked insight into the ways ESG strategies are being implemented by Chinese companies. A financial services firm sought to shed new light on this topic through a thought leadership campaign.
02
Our solution:
A research-driven thought leadership opportunity
In partnership with a global media brand, The Action Exchange conducted a comprehensive research review of ESG trends in China, setting out how ESG principles are being adapted to fit the country’s unique social, economic and environmental policies. Our analysis also drew on a survey of 250+ China-based c-suite and director-level executives, exploring their thinking on sustainability targets and reporting, emerging investment opportunities in the budding sector as well as regional approaches to stakeholder engagement.
03
The outcome:
Compelling evidence and a new contribution to ESG debate
Our analysis culminated in a 7000-word whitepaper on ESG implementation trends in China and how local companies are responding to both consumer and investor demands. Our report provided a rigorous, evidence-based contribution to debate about the assumption of universalism in ESG.
